RATES HAVE GONE UP:

Fines are now $.20; Public copier now $.20; Out of Town (Non Resident Fee) $70.00 per household.



The Library Online:

The Library has started "Enriched Content" for its online catalog. This provides a wealth if descriptive information and cover images relating to books, DVDs, and audio books when using the online catalog. You will be able to see: an image of the cover of the item; a summary of the item's content; a profile of the book or item by genre and series; other similar titles in content for viewing or reading; the Table of Contents; and reviews of the item. You can also read an excerpt, which might be from the preface and/or first chapters of the book.

Childrens Department:

The Children's Department just finished up their Summer Reading Program with goodbye parties for both Summer Reading I and II. All the children had a wonderful time reading this summer and everyone left with some great prizes. Be sure to bring your young ones out to join us next year!





Family Film Matinee:

Films start at NOON and will be shown in the Downstairs Meeting Room of the Library. The films are FREE of charge. Light refreshments will be served at the film showings.





Friends of the Library News:

The next Friends of the Library meeting is scheduled for August 23rd, 2010 at 4pm at the Library.



In honor of the Library's summer reading program, the Friends of the Library donated the following "Bill Nye the Science Guy" DVDs: Lakes and Ponds, Ocean Life, Rivers and Streams, Water Cycle, and Waves. Thank you, Friends!





Heritage Society:

The Venango County Genealogy Club will meet August 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Heritage Room of the Library, located on the second floor. Come join in!

The Oil City Farmers Market:

Oil City Farmers Market is in operation Monday and Thursday Noon to 5pm from mid-June to the end of October at the Central Avenue Plaza, offering a fine selection of freshly grown produce.



Audiobooks:

The Library has a good and current selection of audiobooks available for your busy summer schedule. We've shifted from carrying only books on cassette to having a good selection of both cassettes and CDs. The Library also purchases "Playaways", which contain a preloaded book on a small MP3 player for listening. Come check them out!



Community News:

Pipeline Alley, located adjacent to the Transit Building on Seneca Street, is hosting "Summer Concerts" on Wednesdays this year. The concerts feature local artists, are free of charge, and scheduled right around lunch hour (12pm-1pm). Stop out to hear the music some time soon!

Aug. 18th: Nancy Simpson, Linda Whren, and Steve Winslow (Also playing a Venango Museum Aug. 15th)

Aug. 25th: The Final Concert of the Summer!



The Famous Parking Meter is located outside the childrens section inside the library. All coins that are dropped into the meter will benefit the Childrens Department of the Library.

September 4, 6, 2010- Labor Day

November 25, 26,27, 2010- Thanksgiving (will close Wednedsay, November 24th at 5pm)
