Construction has begun at the Oil City Library. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while the much needed upgrades are being completed. Thanks from the staff and management.



The Oil City Library's Front Street entrance (the ramp) will be closed until early 2012. The new steps on Central Avenue will be the main entrance during this time. The Handicapped entrance is still available in the alley between the Library and the Episcopalian Church. If you have any questions please call the Library at 678-3072.



The Childrens Department:

Summer Reading Program:

Registration will be held on ------. Must have current Oil City Library card. Available in 3 groups: Summer Reading I for Beginning Readers (grades K-2), Summer Reading II for Independent Readers (grades 3-6), and Young Adult Summer Reading for Teens (grades 7-12)



Pre-school Story Time Schedule for 2012: Feb 3, 10, 17, 24; April 13, 20, 27; Oct 5, 12, 19, 26; Dec 7, 14, 21. It is aimed at children ages 3-5 whom are not attending Kindergarten. The program will include picture book stories, flannel board stories, songs, crafts, and video and will last about 40 minutes. Conducted by Sandee Lalley: the children's librarian, and Melanie Letta. Program is free for residents of Oil City, Rouseville, and Cornplanter and President townships and is available to any non-resident who has an out-of-town card ($70.00)

Registration limited to 30 children on first come, first serve basis. Registration dates are The Monday and Tuesday before the first story time Friday. Parents must have a current and fine-free Oil City Library card. Please visit or call (814-678-3072) to register. Registration will close when the maximum of 30 participants is reached, or by Tuesday evening at 9:00 PM, whichever comes first. Your cooperation with the Story Time program is appreciated!



Young Adult Department:

This week (October 16-22) is teen read week! Come in and choose from our wide selection of young adult books or also from the wide variety of magazine titles!



The Famous Parking Meter is located outside the children's section inside the library. All coins that are dropped into the meter will benefit the Children's Department of the Library.

The Library Online:

The Library has started "Enriched Content" for its online catalog. This provides a wealth of descriptive information and cover images relating to books, DVDs, and audio books when using the online catalog. You will be able to see: an image of the cover of the item; a summary of the item's content; a profile of the book or item by genre and series; other similar titles in content for viewing or reading; the Table of Contents; and reviews of the item. You can also read an excerpt, which might be from the preface and/or first chapters of the book.

Fines are now $.20; Public copier now $.20; Out of Town (Non Resident Fee) $70.00 per household.

Audiobooks:

The Library has a good and current selection of audiobooks available for your busy schedule. We've shifted from carrying only books on cassette to having a good selection of both cassettes and CDs. The Library also purchases "Playaways", which contain a preloaded book on a small MP3 player for listening. Come check them out!
